  • Haven't updated this in a while, mostly because there haven't really been any changes. Replaced the water pump and mechanical fuel pump this spring as the fuel pump started leaking after the winter hibernation and the water pump had been getting leakier and leakier last year (internal bearing starting to let go), but otherwise I've just been driving the heck out of it.

It's probably the most reliable car I own at this point haha.

Plans for this year other than putting more miles on it are a quieter exhaust (only a bit), and maybe carpet and door cards. Otherwise, zero issues to report . I feel like I kinda let this thread die, but the build is done for now so i guess that's just the natural progression of things.

      • Hey, Ellie, looks like your speedo cable could use some lubrication.

Indeed! I need to pull the speedo (thankfully comes out the front easily on 260s) to replace a burnt out bulb or two and rectify the inaccuracy i seem to have introduced when I pulled the needle off years ago to put on the KM/H sticker (it reads about 14km low at all speeds) so i'll make sure to do that then. Any specific lubricant you'd recommend?

It was a good time for sure. We've built quite a nice local Z/other old nissan Facebook group for the Ottawa area and the sheer number of old datsuns around that I would never have known were in the area is quite neat.

            • Fluid Film is my go to lubricant for anywhere you need it to "creep". I'm still working on a 20L pail I bought over 20 years ago.

              • Car show today, managed to win a trophy which was neat - for Best Paint of all things haha. I guess they meant the "that's cool" aspect as opposed to actual paint quality but i'm definitely not complaining either way

Also (unrelatedly) got a really good deal on some tires for my subaru, so decided to see if i could fit them in the Z on the trip home instead of coming back in the volvo, and yep, turns out 4 27" tires will fit in a S30 lol

I remember the days of camping gear and 4 track tires loaded in for Solo 1 weekends!

                        It seems so haha
And nice! I've heard stories of people doing that back in the day, just wasn't sure if they'd all fit as the normal Z tire dia is around 24" and these were 27" 's, all adds up. Happily all good though, and would have been even easier if I didn't have the welded-in rear strut bar.

Oh jeez that's quite the roadtrip, where'd you go? I'm hoping to do do a bit trip with the Z at some point, possibly next year (once i quieten it down a little).

Thanks! I was very much not expecting it haha, showed up late, chatted with friends for a few minutes and then the event organizers walked up to us and asked who owned my car lol. It was a good day.

                        • Awesome things are going well. I had a '77 280 2+2 which had loads of storage space with the back seat down. As others have said I went on camping trips with it and got everything in no problem.
Perhaps I should this was when I was A/ much younger, and B/ single. Now we do what's sometimes described as "glamping"

                          • Thanks! And nice, i bet the extra room of a 2+2 would have been very handy for that.

Got some film developed finally, and had taken some shots of the Z a while back so:

We started with the ZCCR weekend in Rochester, then Cape Cod. Worked our way down the Eastern seaboard to ZCON in Savannah, Georgia. After ZCON, diagonally across to Calgary, with a stop to ride a bus around the Indianapolis Speedway. Calgary to St John's, Newfoundland with many side trips, then back for our Z Fest at Brantford.
