Z31 Rear Diff

I know I,m in the wrong spot but the site is a little erratic. Anyway, I'm replacing the diff cover on my Z31 N/A. Nissan has a paper gasket available. Is it really necessary ? Or can I just use Permatex Right Stuff or something similar ? Any comments would be appreciated.

I've had good results with just putting heavy paper on the casting and tapping it all around the edge to cut it out. You used to be able to buy rolls of special paper for this which made a better gasket than stock. A cereal box is the right weight.
