  • 225/50/16 on 16x8 Fitment

Ok so I have read 225/50/16 fits the 280z all the way around. Does anybody have this on 16x8 rims? Please confirm as I would like to buy tires from TireRack.

    OEM: 195/70/14 = 225/50/16 (-0.4 difference)
    Car: 78 280z, 1" Drop, No Flare.
    Rims: 16x8

Tire options: Dunlop Direzza, BFGoodrich g-Force Sport COMP-2, Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport, Toyo Proxes T1R, Yokohama S.drive. Everything has a section width 9.2" except the Yokohama which are 9.3"

Any rubbing? I will do some mild fender rolling if necessary but I'd rather not.

    Thanks!

I know it's not exactly what you're asking about but, I have that size tire on 16"x7.0" (-20) wheels (Stock Z31 turbo wheels) on my 240Z. My car is lowered with Eibach springs. Total drop was somewhere around 1.25". Also my front track width is about 10mm wider on each side, and I had to use a 5mm spacer in the rear so that my tires wouldn't rub on the spring perch of the strut.. If I had closer to 0 offset wheels this wouldn't have been an issue.

Sorry I should have mentioned my wheels will be 16x8 0 offset. I feel the 225/50/16 will be ok but need some reassurance..

My experience with trying to fit 16x8 zero offset on a 73 240
        Front is not a problem
        Rear is,
Unless you have quite a bit of negative camber on the back or you are prepared to roll the inner fender right tight, it will rub under compression.
Do a plumb bob off the rear fender lip and a measurement to the drum/ mount face.
When I mounted the rim blank, it came a full 5/16" beyond the verticle. That would have required some serious roll! i'll attach a pic

Ive got XXR 530 16x8.25" +0 with the same tire, and a 1" drop with lowering springs. The fronts were so close to the spring perch I threw a 3mm spacer in. With your rims being .25" (~3mm a side narrower) that shouldnt be an issue. My wheels hit the stock front "skirt/lip" side pieces when turning the wheels all the way. The rears fit fine. With my springs, the tires rubbed on hard/fast corners till i rolled the fenders. My 2 cents, good luck choosing
