  • My new ride.

I know the timing is weird, but I swear this new car has nothing to do with me retiring as the webmaster. I swear! I was actually looking for a 370Z - had a real nice 2012 red sport package one with low clicks I was going to pull the trigger on it then I thought... hey why not look at some other stuff. I've always wanted a porsche. A nice air cooled 90's 911 has always caught my eye. Those are a bit out of my price range but I did find a '99 911 Carrera with low km, for a great price.

I've done the research on these and this model run could have some serious issues, and the porsche purists kinda scoff at the newer water cooled models which makes these more affordable. The PO couldnt come up with the repair history but I did managed to track it down from the shop and all the maintenance had been done and all the major issues addressed which in theory makes this a solid buy. The price was better than I could get a 370z for so I bought a '99 911.

I've had this for a few weeks and every time I drive it I compare it to the '09 370Z I had - would I love a new 370Z more? Heres my take, and just my opinion as I've had both.

    - both cars are sporty so road noise and ride quality are similar. I think the porsche sounds better from the inside. Engine definitely sounds better to me. 911 may not be as well insulated from road noise but its close.

    - ride quality. 370z seats were definitely more comfy. 370Z interior was better way better quality by a large factor (but the porsche is a '99 so...). I do find driving the porsche alot easier, the clutch just seems more fluid. The 370z took effort, had longer clutch pedal travel and took more pressure to engage. The porsche feels effortless. I think both cars handle well but are different. The Z felt pretty heavy.

I think the jury is still out on this one for me, I would have been happy with either but so far I'm loving the 911. Im still confident I'll own another Z, so I'll still be active on this site (always wanted an '84 anniversary 300zx)

The Porsche looks great Zak, good find! Nothing wrong with going German, I've always wanted an Audi R8 and maybe someday. Also like the old Acura NSX.

Very cool. I just sold my Cayman last week and am now shopping for a 240/260/280 Z.

Jason. I swear I had nothing to do with converting Z owners to Porsches. It does seem to happen, and I know a bunch of Porsche folks who once owned Z's. Both are great cars. Have fun Zak!
