  • Engine Swap - My how plans change

Plans have changed a little. The person who made my 2JZ swap is no longer making the kits. It was the best kit on the market and I saw one up for sale on eBay for 2K us. I laughed and put mine up for 2K Canadian. It sold for less but its new owner has everything build and was just trying to find the last pieces to complete his project. We worked something out and I am shipping his parts this week.

Long story short. I am now changed directions. I will be installing an all aluminum 5.3L HO engine with the 799 castings (Z06) heads. I'm not sure which intake I will go with yet. It will be a sheet metal or LS6 intake. If extra money develops I will be installing a new cam and valve springs which will increase Hp considerably. The motor is rated at 320 HP 335 Tq before all the accessories are removed. My swap kit has arrived from CX racing today The motor is in the back of my truck and will be unloaded tomorrow.

Damn heater cant keep up with the cold in garage. Hope it warms up soon.

Started pulling the engine Harness apart today, I plan on keeping the drive by wire and cruise control. Mounted the might 5.3 on the engine stand. Hopefully its warmer next week so I can strip, clean, and paint. Engine complete minus the alternator was 825 bucks with 143K on the motor. Fluids were clean in the engine and compression was good across all cylinders. Will take me about 20 hours to complete the harness if all goes well.

The work on the stock to stand lone harness continues. Keep in mine I've never make my own harness before so theres a learning curve. So far I'm enjoying it.

Started by disassembling the C1 and C2 computer connectors.

Removed about 1.2 million wires. Lots of thing were not needed like 4x4 transfer case sensor, secondary fuel tank relay, A/C stuff.

This is where I am currently. Tracing wires back to the non requires things and removing them from the harness

Wiring harness ia pretty much complete but I'm still contemplating getting a Holley EFi stand alone. The gas tank is pulled and disposed of. There tons of undercoating and I am prepping to remove the factory wheel well and weld in some square stock to support the Camaro tank. Notice the rear 1/4 in my car are fiberglass. I'm begining to think this whol car is glass. Front fenders, rear quaters, headlight buckets, rear pan all glass. Well I hope its lighter lol.

If this weather would cooperate I would get more work completed.

What rear end are you going to use?

To be determined. There a kit to put a 8.8 IRS differential from a mustang/explorer. That would be my number one choice but its about 2200 US to build it. I'm trying to find a decent price TR6060 or T-56 which is going to cost me about 2500.

I tried cleaning my L33 engine with solvents, brushes, steel wool, everything[img but just couldn't get thing looking the way I wanted. Bought a sandblaster and now zen can be achieved.

Today Kyle (Needboost) came over today and gave me a hand removing all the wiring, hoses, and connectors from the engine. We also drained all the fluids, removed the rad, and unbolted the engine from the mounts today. Hopefully this week I can pull the engine and trans. Cans up on stand so I can unbolt the hydraulic slave cyclinder, driveshaft, and trans mount bolts tomorrow.

The wiring in this car is hideous. Check this out. The previous owners use of residential house maretts! All connections are made with butt connectors. The extra non labeled wires of the same colour everywhere. It's no wonder the light are so dim and I have one switch for headlights and another toggle switch for driving lights. The car is being completely rewired. I have a modern day 21 circuit wiring kit with mini fuses and all the relays for electric fans.
