  • Any z mechanics in the Burlington area?

I need to have my clutch replaced on my 78 280z and wanted to know if there were any good mechanics in the burlington area that are trust worthy.
    Thanks
    Rick

NOT UBA! (Upper Brant Auto) had a bad experience with them despite the mechanic saying he had Datsun history going back to when he did an engine swap with his brother in a S30 back in the late 70s.

So You've moved to Burlington now? Wanna meet sometime? Would love to see your car. I'm always at the Wednesday Meet at Lakeside Plaza, and the Friday Meet at Canadian Tire on Dundas in Waterdown, and tonight I think I'll rocket up to the meet at Mosers Bar and Grill on Guelph Line after work at 8 PM. I'm always the only Japanese car there, except I have a friend with another 280zx that will start coming out with me also.

Wow, I had no idea there were so many car meets in the area. Definatly gonna have to come out to one soon. First I need to get the clutch sorted. Anyone recomend a shop close to the area?
      Thanks

        Hi YellowZ

Are mechanically inclined? If you are the clutch is not that hard to do and you can save a lot of money. I've rebuilt a 78 from the ground up so I could offer you some advice if you interested. Otherwise try Brant Transmission at 2445 Industrial St. They helped me with my Tiburon clutch and they were very good.

        Cheers, Les

YellowZ, did you get it done?

YellowZ and Les, weather pending, I'll be heading to the Milton GoStation Car Meet around 6ish. It runs 5 till dark. Last week had a great turnout. I've spoken with some other Z drivers who are likely to try to come too. Hope you guys can make it.

I think I'm gonna give her a try myself first. The thing is with old cars such as the ol 78 z I always end up snapping or stripping bolts. Not in the mood for the bull**** that comes along with working on old cars right now. However I think this time I'm gonna give it a shot and hope for the best. This will be done in my garage with the car on ramps. I hope the tranny will clear the exhaust. Last thing I wanna do is have to chop the pipe and have to get it welded back on. Clutch arrives on Monday. Wish me luck!

I haven't had any luck getting the trans past the exhaust, stock or my custom exhaust.

You should be able to remove the exhaust system as a whole and set it out of the way. I did/do that with my stock exhaust and my current exhaust system.

Are you planning on only having one end of the car up on ramps? I can't imagine how you'd ever do the transmission like that!

Ramps for the front wheels and jack stands for the back. I will see if I can move the exhaust out of the way. If not then shes off to some shop to do the work.
